The Mayor’s Green Procurement Code Awards 2011

The Mayor’s Green Procurement Code Awards 2011 were held on the 22nd June, hosted at the BASE London conference with LRS Consultancy at the Honourable Artillery Company, City of London.

The Mayor of London’s Green Procurement Code recognises London’s leading organisations for addressing environmental issues in their supply chains through an annual awards ceremony.

Winners this year were Best SME (tie 1st place) – Wiles Greenworld & Urbanplanters, Best Public Sector – Metropolitan Police and Best Large Private Sector- Morgan Sindall. With innovative measures ranging from sourcing sustainable products, establishing a swap shop to make best use of materials, ensuring sustainability is embedded throughout the organisation and improving the SME PQQ process it is easy to see why these companies are recognised as leaders in sustainable procurement.

The results of this year’s progress review showed some 2000 tonnes of CO2 emissions saved, along with 42,000 tonnes of waste not sent to landfill, along with many other efficiency measures from the 70+ members of this years scheme.

This year The Sourcing Team attained Silver level in the code and are absolutely focused on taking this up to Gold over the next 12 months – a massive well done to all the winners and watch out for us next year!
