Last month I attended an event organised by Diversity Works for London at City Hall which showcased employers who actively attract and recruit disabled people. The aim of the event was to raise awareness of the benefits of employing disabled people and the help that is available to achieve this. A range of truly inspiring speakers, many with a disability, demonstrated the positives and strengths of disabled workers along with a demonstration of some of the go-ahead technology that can be utilised within the workplace to aid various disabilities and guide companies through the whole recruitment/retention process. A variety of recruitment agencies were also on hand to provide advice on all aspects of employing disabled staff.
It proved to be an interesting and informative afternoon which certainly achieved its objective of guiding employers towards the benefits of a more inclusive workforce. I look forward to future events with interest.
