Here’s my take on the first ever #Inclusivesummit. There was so much energy, energy to drive change together. What stood out is that each advocacy group is made up of strong and purposeful people but the combination of the 5 groups, bringing diverse backgrounds, skills and perspective was quite incredible and brought extra vibrancy.
As well as the great panel discussions, shared insights, a sharing of powerful individual stories, of overcoming major challenges and finding individual, unique and authentic approaches to build that success. No two stories were the same and that’s is what is so exciting – you can do it your way.

Kriss Akabasusi MBE, three-time Olympic medallist, “The past is for reference not for residence”, really cut through – your past is an inherent part of you but doesn’t define you. Kriss’s experience of having someone see your gift then taking practical action to build on it for success. That initial leg up was vital but the help in creating a focused plan with daily, measurable milestones to build towards that final goal gave that impetus to reach those medals. His story was powerful, super inspiring and very emotional and shows what can be achieved from humble beginnings with focus and belief.
The Breaking Barriers session with Daniel Armitage, Jane Hatton and Laura Dolphin – three incredible human beings. Not only overcoming challenges but using those challenges to create inspirational businesses to help others. Daniel said, “your difference makes you unique” don’t hide it “magnify it!” For me that is the point of inclusion, we all bring something special and that is our uniqueness.
“Procurement has the power to change the world” – our corporate partners demonstrated their commitment, both in sharing what they have been doing to date but also in the active conversations they were having with all of the groups for #Inclusivesourcing.
WEConnect, MSDUK, OutBritain, Veteran Owned UK and Social Enterprise UK – you did it! You brought us all together in one amazing space. The Guildhall, what a stunning venue. Maggie Berry – you know you rock and a delight to see you working your magic with these wonderful advocacy groups.
Final reflections for me personally!
Feel okay to share your story, it is that story about what you have overcome, that makes you who you are, it is your superpower.
Open your eyes, ears and heart to be truly #inclusive in your thinking, work and actions – it is the combined power of each and every one of us working together that brings unique perspective, results and success.
Thank you to UK Government you are bringing powerful change with The Procurement Act, we need to grow this economy and for success we need our SMEs to lead the charge and fly!
